Filmography

Jakrawal is artist and filmmaker. He obtained his BFA at Silpakorn University, Bangkok and MFA at the School of Art Institute of Chicago, USA. In 2007-08, he was an artist in residence at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten, Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Jakrawal’s work spans from short films, documentary films to video installations and feature films. The themes of his work often relate to Eastern philosophy in contemporary context. His work was shown in international film festivals and art exhibitions including Yamagata Documentary Film Festival, Taipei Biennial 2012, Berlin Film Festival (Forum Expanded), SeMA Biennale Mediacity Seoul 2014, Toronto Film Festival and many others. His feature film Vanishing Point(2015) was premiered at the 44th International Film Festival Rotterdam and won the festival top prize, Hivos Tiger Award. His most recent film Anatomy of Time(2021) was premiere at the 78th Venice Film Festival. He is also a full-time lecturer on film subject at Thammasat University, Bangkok, Thailand.

Mattie DO is Laos’ first, and only, female filmmaker. Raised in Los Angeles but rooted in Laos, she debuted with Chanthaly the first Lao film screened outside Asia. Her films, featuring her dogs as actors, earned acclaim at many prestigious festivals. Chanthaly’s success led to her selection for the Cannes, TIFF’s Directors Talent Lab, Berlinale Talents, and BIFAN’s Fantastic Film School. Afterward, she worked with the Ministry of Culture to create the essential infrastructure for foreign co-production in Laos. Mattie produced Laos’ first American, European, and Japanese co-productions. Her second film, Dearest Sister, received Special Jury Mentions at Sitges and Fantasporto, and was later selected as Laos’ first submission for the Foreign Language Film Award at the 90th Academy Awards. Her third film, The Long Walk, premiered in the Giornate degli Autori at the 76th Venice Film Festival in 2019, Toronto, Tokyo, and at the Busan International Film Festival.

LEE Jongsuk (KOREA )

LEE Jongsuk is a director and a screenwiter was born in Seoul, Korea. He studied film theory at UC Berkeley and got master’s degree about VR Cinema. He also studied a Motion Pictures and Television at Laney College in SF, US. He had worked at the International SF Film Festival as a programmer and at New Line Cinema Studio as a assistant producer. His first feature film The Negotiation(2018) was premiered on 2018. He’s making his second feature film Adult Fairy Tale that is scheduled on the theatre in the end of 2023.

UM Hyejung graduated with MFA in a film and lighting major at the Korea National University of Arts and gave lectures at Jeonju University, ChungAng University and Dankook University. Director KIM Youngnam’s short film I Can Fly To You But You...(2001), where UM Hye-jung joined as a filming director was invited to the Cinéfondation section of the 54th Cannes Film Festival, and director CHO Gyuok’s Fingerprint(2004) was screened at the 9th Busan International Film Festival and the 8th Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival. She won the filming award at the 3rd Mise-enscène Short Film Festival with Fingerprint(2004). Afterwards, she was invited to the 57th Cannes Film Festival’s Critics’ Week for the short film production work Home Sweet Home(2004). In feature films, she worked on LEE Sooyeon’s omnibus feature film Modern Family E.D. 571(2012) and later won the Technical Award at the 18th Women in Film Korea Festival for Bluebeard(2017). In 2020, she participated in various works, such as working as a filming director for director KIM Jinmin’s Netflix original drama Extracurricular(Netflix).

Phu Nam, was born in the year of the Tiger, followed in the footsteps of his late father in antiquities and filmmaking. Trained by his father in photography since the age of nine, Phunam is also a self-taught cinematographer and has directed photography for many television commercials, music videos, television dramas and feature films. Along with Matt Lucero and Tuan Andrew Nguyen, he was a founding member of the art collective “The Propeller Group”.

KIM Junseok majored Philosophy at Sogang University. However, he wanted to become a musician and therefore learned a music theory from Lee Pankeun, Jazz musician from the first Korean Jazz generation. In 1997, Junseok met Cho Sungwoo, one of the best film music directors in Korea and started making music for films as his assistant. After 4 years, in 2001, he received a favorable evaluation with his debut film, Marriage Is a Crazy Thing. In 2009, 2010 and 2022, he won the Daejong Film Award with A Frozen Flower, A Barefoot Dream and Life is Beautiful. Also, he won the Icheon Chunsa Film Festival Award with Lifting King Kong in 2009. With such achievements in film music, he started contributing to TV dramas as music director. Stranger(Secret Forest), Signal, W, Moon Embracing the Sun, A King’s Doctor, Giant, Royal Family and Jang Okjeong, Falling in Love, The Glory(Netflix) are his representative works. Now Junseok is CEO of Movie Closer.

Steve M. Choe holds an M.F.A in Film Editing from American Film Institute (AFI). In 2005, he founded C-47 Post Studio in Korea, which has now become a prominent post-production company. Throughout his career, Steve Choe has edited approximately 70 feature films and 20 television series, showcasing his exceptional talent and expertise in the art of film editing. In 2013, Steve’s editing work on Snowpiercer was recognized with a prestigious Grand Bell Award in Korea for the best editing category. Among his recent projects, Steve Choe has worked as the editor on The Revenant(2023), Netflix Original Series A Time Called You(2023), and Disney+ Original Series Vigilante(2023), further enhancing his reputation as a skilled and sought-after film editor. In addition to his role as a film editor, Steve M. Choe is also a respected educator.

TRAN Thi Bich Ngoc graduated from Hanoi Academy of Theatre and Cinema in 1998. Over the course of her career, she produces many successful commercial feature film projects for Vietnamese market, earned important stature in the Vietnamese film industry. Among her films, The Third Wife(2018) by Ash Mayfair was premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2018 and won the NETPAC Jury Award for the Best Asian Film. Glorious Ashes(2022) was selected for official competition at Tokyo International Film Festival 2022, awarded Montgolfier d’or at Festival de Three Continents, Nantes 2022. Ngoc is co-founder of Autumn Meeting and she was named one of Forbes Magazine’s ’50 Most Influential Women’ in 2019 in recognition of her efforts to support young filmmakers and help bring Vietnamese cinema to the world.

CHU Chung On is a graduate of Hong Kong Polytechnic University with a B.A. in Graphic Design. He began his career participating in different media projects ranging from advertising and computer-generated imagery to feature film productions. In 2000, Mr. CHU cofounded OCTOBER PICTURES LIMITED and had the opportunities to produce the Hong Kong portion of Hollywood blockbusters such as Batman: The Dark Knight, Transformers 4: Age of Extinction, Now You See Mee 2, Doctor Strange, Ghost in the Shell and also Korean movie hits such as My Wife is a Gangster 3(directed by CHO Jingyu) and The Professionals (directed by CHOI Donghoon), which have made OCTOBER PICTURES LIMITED a reputable name in the industry not only locally but also with international film studios. Mr. CHU has served as a member of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council Entertainment Industry Advisory Committee from 2011 to 2015 and was a nonofficial member of the Hong Kong Film Development Council from April 2015 to March 2019. At present, Mr. CHU serves on the Panel of Examiners to assist the Fund Vetting Committee of the Hong Kong Film Development Council in evaluating applications for film producing financing and film production grant under the Film Development Fund.

Darcy William PAQUET (USA)

Darcy William PAQUET is a professor in the International Film Business Academy at the Busan Asian Film School. He is the founder of the website Koreanfilm.org and the author of New Korean Cinema: Breaking the Waves (2010). A former correspondent for Screen International and Variety, in 2013 he co-launched the Wildflower Film Awards Korea, which celebrates achievement in Korean independent filmmaking. He also works as a programme consultant for the Udine Far East Film Festival in Italy. Over the years he has done the English subtitle translation for over 100 Korean films, including Parasite(2019), Decision to Leave(2022), Broker(2022), and The Woman Who Ran(2020).
