The Busan Film Commission has made a conscious effort to not only bring together the Asian and ASEAN film industries, but also to facilitate the training of human resources that serves as the foundation of these industries. As part of these endeavors, the Busan Film Commission is executing ‘ASEAN-ROK Film Leaders Incubator: FLY’ for discovering talented young filmmakers, and it has cultivated 113 alumni from Thailand, Myanmar, Malaysia, and Cambodia since the FLY 2012 in the Philippines.
We have prepared a festival to show the past five years of FLY as it celebrates the 50th anniversary of the founding of ASEAN we embrace the ASEAN-ROK Cultural Exchange year in October, 2017. The FLY Film Festival will screen 10 short films produced at FLY and 22 excellent films by the alumni. Furthermore, 20 alumni from 9 countries have been invited to a networking event to exchange information about each country’s film industry.
I truly believe the FLY Film Festival will be a good opportunity to enhance the understanding of ASEAN by showing the culture, history, society and politics of ASEAN countries through films that premiere at the FLY Film Festival. It also provides an opportunity for ASEAN filmmakers to introduce their work to those from the film industry who attend the Busan Film Festival that runs concurrently.
I expect the FLY Film Festival to continue to enhance the relationship between ASEANROK film industry towards accompanied growth as it forms a strong foundation for the bright future of ASEAN film. Please pay attention throughout the three-day journey of this meaningful FLY Film Festival.
